Monitoring RedditX, Medium & Substack next

Know what your audience cares about before it trends.

Watchingfeed runs virtual marketing personas tuned to your ICP. They lurk in the communities your customers actually live in, catch posts the moment they spike, and hand you the story underneath — while it is still early enough to use.

Recency and engagement floors first — most of the firehose never reaches scoring.

The problem

By the time a trend reaches your brief, it is already saturated.

The story starts as a post in a niche community. Weeks later it is a TikTok format, then a headline, then a slide in someone’s trend deck. You get it at step four, at the same time as every competitor, and it is worth almost nothing by then.

Social listening tools do not help — they are built to tell you when someone mentions your brand. The interesting conversation is the one happening before your brand is in it.

  1. Day 0

A post lands in a niche subreddit.

  2. +5 hours

It spikes. Watchingfeed flags it and extracts the story.

  3. Week 3

It gets repurposed on TikTok and X.

  4. Week 6

It shows up in a trend report. Everyone has it.

Personas

A persona is a filter, not a customer profile.

Each one is tuned to a single archetype — what it believes, what it distrusts, what makes it stop scrolling. It only reacts to content that fits. That is what turns a firehose of posts into three things worth reading.

A

Narrow beats broad

“Crunchy mom” works because it has real beliefs and real enemies. “Lazy businessman” does not — there is nothing to react to.

B

Read-only, always

Personas score and rank public posts. They never post, comment, vote or message. Nothing is published under a persona account.

C

New archetypes surface

When content keeps spiking that none of your personas match, that gap is the finding. We flag it instead of forcing a fit.

I read the label on my "natural" baby wash and I'm never buying it again

The juice of the story

This is betrayal, not education. She isn't asking what's safe — she's angry that she trusted a label and it lied. Brands leading with certification badges are losing here; brands leading with "here's the entire list, judge us yourself" are winning.

Switched the whole house down to 5 products and my skin finally cleared up

316/hr

The juice of the story

Simplification as status. Fewer products has become the flex; the twelve-step routine now reads as gullible. Any product positioned as an addition to a routine is swimming against this.

Why is every "clean" brand owned by the same three companies?

476/hr

The juice of the story

Ownership is becoming the new ingredient list. Expect "independently owned" to do the persuasive work that "organic" did five years ago — and expect acquisition news to become a churn event.

How it works

Three steps, then it runs quietly.

  1. 01

    We build your personas together

You describe who you are trying to reach. We turn that into two to twelve archetypes with beliefs, triggers and the communities they live in. You approve them before anything runs.

  2. 02

    They lurk, continuously

Every post in those communities gets filtered by recency and engagement, then scored against each persona. We watch velocity, not raw score — a thousand upvotes in five hours is a signal, a thousand over five days is noise.

  3. 03

    You get the juice, weekly

Not a summary of the post. The narrative underneath it: why this resonated with this archetype, what it implies for positioning, and whether the pattern is recurring or a one-off.

What you get

Built for the part of the job that is actually hard.

Velocity detection

We rank by how fast a post is climbing, not where it ended up. Catching it at hour five is the entire point.

Story extraction

Every flagged post comes with the narrative underneath it — the thing that actually resonated, in language you can put in a brief.

Recurrence tracking

One post is an anecdote. The fourth time the same story spikes, it is a trend. We count so you do not have to remember.

Scoped to your ICP

You see what your archetypes react to, not a global trending feed. No wading through content your audience would never touch.

Client-ready output

Digests export clean, so what lands in your inbox on Monday can be in a client deck by Tuesday without a rewrite.

Delivered, not another dashboard

It arrives in your inbox on a schedule. There is nothing to log into and remember to check.

FAQ

The questions we get asked first.

Something not covered here? Email us — a person replies.

Why Reddit first?

Most text-based viral content starts there and gets repurposed everywhere else. Starting at the origin means seeing a story weeks before it reaches the platforms that recycle it. X, Medium and Substack are next.

How is this different from a social listening tool?

Listening tools are built around your brand — they tell you when someone mentions you. Watchingfeed is built around your audience. It surfaces the conversations happening before your brand is part of them, which is the only point at which you can still act on one.

Do the personas actually post or engage?

No. They read public posts and score them. They never post, comment, upvote, or message anyone. There are no persona accounts acting in these communities.

Where do the personas come from?

We build the first set with you from your ICP, then score them against what actually shows up in the data. If content keeps spiking that none of your personas match, we tell you — a missing archetype is usually the most valuable thing we can find.

What does a digest actually look like?

The panel in the personas section is the shape of it: the post, how fast it climbed, the story underneath, and whether that story has recurred. Three to ten of those per persona per week. The trace at the top of this page shows how one of those entries is found.

How many communities can you watch?

As many as stay useful. We tune the filters with you so the volume is something a person can actually read on a Monday morning rather than another feed to fall behind on.

Your next campaign is already a post someone made this morning.

Tell us who you are trying to reach. We will build the personas and show you what they found in their first week.
